Internship in Bentley - Anna Reznichenko

6/12/2015
I got my first professional experience at Bentley Motors Limited. Bentley Motors Limited is a British luxury automaker, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the German company Volkswagen AG.
Its principal activity is the design, engineering, manufacture and distribution of luxury automobiles sold under the Bentley marque. Based in Crewe, England, Bentley Motors Limited was founded by W. O. Bentley on 18 January 1919.

I was lucky to be chosen from among the large number of good students for this position considering the fact that I hadn’t had any professional experience before due to my young age.

Like the rest of the students I had an internship in the Purchasing Department. One role of the Purchasing Department is to procure all necessary materials needed for production or daily operation of the company. I had been working with the project team.

I was responsible for:
- completing B -Releases on a daily basis;
- support AEKO meetings and prepare AEKO / ECR packs for all projects;
- admin support for the project team;
- support for forward sourcing including data inputting;
- LSC support;
- working in SAP, AVON, TEVON systems;
- communication with suppliers, buyers;
- preparing of purchasing presentations.

Internship in the Purchasing Department gave me a lot of useful working skills which will definitely help me in my future career: I learned how to work in such systems like SAP, AVON, TEVON and learned the right way of communication with suppliers and buyers. Moreover, I learned how to work in a team which is also very important at work. What is more, now I know how to manage a demanding working load because of the great amount of work at Bentley Motors. Finally, I become more confident and independent at work.

The working atmosphere at the Bentley Motors Limited really amazed me. All the colleagues are very friendly and helpful. I worried a lot before the beginning of my internship because it was my first professional experience ever. That’s why, I didn’t know a lot of things. But thanks to the help of my manager and team I overcame all the difficulties at the beginning. One of the best things about being an intern at BML is that you are treated not just like an intern for 6 months, but like a temporary worker. It gives you a lot of confidence at work. During my internship we had a lot of team activities: Christmas lunch, ladies’ lunch, Christmas boogie night, Airkix Team Day in Manchester and so on. Such activities gave me a chance to get to know each of my team members better.

I must also mention the improvement in my language skills. At the beginning of my internship, it was difficult for me to understand the English speech with its special accent. But after 5 months of working in BML I am able to understand nearly everything and of course my speaking and writing skills have improved a lot as well due to necessity to communicate with buyers and suppliers.

During our internship in England we travelled a lot and visited many places in Great Britain. We were in cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, Birmingham, Southport and London. Moreover, we visited Scotland as well. Edinburgh really amazed us with its beauty, wonderful nature and unique atmosphere. All of these trips helped us to get to know British culture and traditions. We travelled with other interns from all over the world and made a lot of good friends among them.

There is no doubt that the internship at Bentley Motors gives students a lot of possibilities and perspectives for their future career. Personally, I had already applied for a new part-time job in SKODA AUTO in the Logistics Department and, fortunately, was accepted. In the future I would like to improve my technical and automotive knowledge and work on more complicated and challenging tasks.

For me it was a very good start of my career and I’m sure that this experience will help me a lot in my future life. I am very proud to have been a part of the Purchasing Department in Bentley Motors and very grateful for such invaluable experience.

Our student Václav Volf travelled to Ingolstadt in Germany to do his compulsory internship in Audi AG. He worked in the Department for Coordination of Fair and Exhibition Vehicles, where he supported the permanent staff in the process of planning vehicles for fairs. He was responsible for this year’s exhibitions in Detroit, New York, Shanghai and partly also for the Frankfurt fair in autumn. You can read the whole report from his stay in Ingolstadt below.
Martina comes from Jičín but currently lives in Prague. She completed her follow-on Master’s degree programme at ŠKODA AUTO University in 2014. Right after graduation, Martina started working for Estée Lauder, first in the HR department. She worked her way through marketing to a PR position and currently takes care of promotion of seven world-renowned brands.
She likes to spend her free time doing sports – mostly running, badminton, volleyball and mountain hiking. Also, because of her profession, she likes fashion and design.
Viktor Myslil, a graduate of our Bachelor’s degree programme Business Administration and Operations, comes from Prague. His passion for ŠKODA AUTO cars made him decide to study in Mladá Boleslav. He also wanted to try something different than all his other classmates.
I have been dreaming about living in a foreign country since I was small child. This wish made ŠAVS more appealing during my “university selection period” because I learned, thanks to their Open Day and a visit from the ŠAVŠ PR Department to my high school, that this school offers a lot of possibilities to study and complete internships abroad, the latter which is important in one’s future career. When I got the opportunity to spend my mandatory internship abroad, I did not hesitate a single moment. After my Study Erasmus in Slovenia, I left to spend another semester in Dublin, Ireland to work with Škoda’s Irish importer.
Mladá Boleslav is the hometown of our graduate Ing. Ivan Vaněk, who currently works for the British luxury car manufacturer, Bentley Motors Ltd., where he undertook his six-month internship as a student of ŠKODA AUTO University.
Our graduate Michal Maruška works as a coordinator in the Connected Car and Infotainment Department. His internship involved many technical responsibilities. However, in order to further grow professionally, he needed a study programme that focused more on management. For this reason, he chose the Bachelor’s and follow-on Master’s degree programme Business Administration and Operations, both which combine the two fields in an ideal manner.
Ondřej is a graduate of the Bachelor field of study Business Administration and Financial Management and the follow-on Master field of study Corporate Finance Management in the Global Environment.
Our student Andrea listened to the advice of her classmates when choosing her internship. She also visited the Magna company booth at the ŠKODA AUTO University Career Day and she– this was the partner for her six-month internship.
I would recommend an internship to everyone. It is a great way to discover yourself, plus you get to learn the language and customs and most of all, it is an unforgettable experience.
Martin Dolejší, student of our Master Programme Global marketing and Sales, spend quite a lot of time abroad whilst studying at our university. Now he has three different experiences abroad: studies in Finland, internship at ŠKODA AUTO UK and also the prestigous programme, Global Village, in the USA. You can read the interview we did with Martin to see what he learnt and how he assesses his stays abroad.
